    Responsibilities

    Africa Center for Strategic Studies (ACSS) supports U.S. foreign and security policies by strengthening the strategic capacity of African states to identify and resolve security challenges in ways that promote civil-military cooperation, respect for democratic values, and safeguarding human rights. The ACSS engages African partner states and institutions through rigorous academic and outreach programs that build strategic capacity and foster long-term, collaborative relationships.

     

    • Plan, arrange and make the necessary travel purchases for participants, including the purchase of airline tickets and ground transportation services for African participants traveling from African countries to the U.S. or to other African countries
    • Provide “positive-control” tracking of participants and seamless handoff of individuals between program elements (ground transportation, lodging, and engagement registration).
    • Assist with the development and production of written, visual, and graphic materials (e.g., news releases, media advisories, fact sheets, brochures, online broadcasts, videos, and graphics) for ACSS (website, multimedia, and print), official information products, and social media, adhering to the highest journalistic and professional standards to accurately explain ACSS’ work. Incorporate public outreach and media access into programs.
    • Create efficient travel itineraries that minimize travel time and layovers for program attendees, particularly those traveling within the African continent
    • Responsible for arrangement and management of lodging for participants attending both CONUS and OCONUS programs
    • Arrangement and management of shipment of program materials (publications, supplies, IT and Audio-Visual equipment) to and from engagement locations in support of programs held OCONUS.
    • Provide all necessary services for set up, preparation and execution of each engagement for programs both in Africa and the U.S.
    • Arrangement and management of transportation services (buses, cars with drivers) in support of program engagements held both CONUS and OCONUS
    • Planning for Alumni affairs and engagements including but not limited to: mini-courses, sustainment, and other networking engagements.
    • Coordination of logistical support for ACSS activities to include publications, research support, meetings, interpreters, copyright clearance, shipping equipment and supplies to/from the seminar site, local transportation and communication assets
    • Liaison logistical support with convention and banqueting staff at the hotel(s) and/or conference center
    • Perform other duties as required

    Qualifications

    • Minimum 4 years’ experience in event organization
    • Minimum 4 years’ in travel planning that includes travel and shipment of material to Africa
    • Experience in working with Department of Defense
    • Must have experience in scheduling, working with senior leaders, event planning, and project management
    • Writing sample will be required

    Desired Qualifications:

    • BS Degree in Event Planning, Hospitality, or related is desired
