    Job Title:  Public Affairs Support Specialist

    Job Location: Washington DC

    Responsibilities

    Africa Center for Strategic Studies (ACSS) supports U.S. foreign and security policies by strengthening the strategic capacity of African states to identify and resolve security challenges in ways that promote civil-military cooperation, respect for democratic values, and safeguarding human rights. The ACSS engages African partner states and institutions through rigorous academic and outreach programs that build strategic capacity and foster long-term, collaborative relationships.

     

    • Provide public affairs support and content writing for ACSS based upon guidance from agency director
    • Assist with the development and production of written, visual, and graphic materials (e.g., news releases, media advisories, fact sheets, brochures, online broadcasts, videos, and graphics) for ACSS (website, multimedia, and print), official information products, and social media, adhering to the highest journalistic and professional standards to accurately explain ACSS’ work.
    • Incorporate public outreach and media access into programs.
    • Maintain a catalog of preferred and/or vetted vendors on the African continent to provide services to ACSS engagements.
    • Develop Pre-Event Planning Checklists
    • Provide ad hoc support for the setup, checkout, and operation of all IT equipment during ACSS engagements both in CONUS and OCONUS
    • Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of visits, meetings, programs, and office calls, report writing, program analysis, student support etc
    • Perform other duties as required

    Qualifications

    • BS Degree in Public Affairs, Event Management or related field
    • Minimum 2 years’ experience in event organization
    • Minimum 4 years’ experience in Public Affairs
    • Experience in working with Department of Defense
    • Must have experience in scheduling, working with senior leaders, event planning, and project management
    • Experience in development of written, visual, and graphic materials
    • Writing sample will be required
